I'm 15 and for I would assume for at least 5 years I've had scoliosis. For most of those years I just thought I had lower back problems cause I was weak or something. I went to the doctor a couple of months ago after I hurt a muscle real bad on my right shoulder blade and he had me get x-rays. Turns out I have slight/mild scoliosis on my lower back and it's affecting everything above it. Ever since I hurt that one muscle (they call it a muscle spasm) I hurt myself easy doing things (mostly sports but sometimes from heavy lifting/laying a certain way etc.) Is there anything I can do to make my back better?

Try exercises to strengthen your abs, back, and legs. Also stretching exercises especially for your legs.

I have the same problem and I went to physical therapy for about 6 weeks to learn some good strategies to strengthen my back. Ask your doctor for a referral.

You probably are reinjuring yourself because the muscles supporting your spine get tired, sprained/strained, and then spasm. Valerian works well for muscle spasm, it's important to get those under control, as some can be brutal. Since your scoliosis is mild, your lucky! Many people have this, myself included. Excercise is probably the best thing for you, it's important to keep the muscles strong, and in good condition. Be aware of your body posture when lifting items, whether they are awkward or just plain heavy. Heating pads, rice socks work good at relaxing muscles and getting blood flow to the effected area. Physical therapy is useful, as well. Ibuprofen works good for pain and also helps with inflammation.
