Take it to the vets. A simple x-ray will tell.

A simple x-ray doesn't tell you much at all. When fluid is drawn from the lungs it can be examined for cancer cells. Sometimes a cancer elsewhere in the body can metastisize to the lungs. By the time my cat's mammary cancer was discovered it had metastisized to the lungs. I do not think primary lung cancer is at all common in cats. You obviously know that fluid in the lungs makes it difficult for the cat to breathe and that in itself can be fatal. Sometimes fluid in the lungs is caused by a heart malfunction. Symptoms are just symptoms and do not define any particular cancer or disease.

A mass in the lungs shown just by xray could also be fluids from a heart issue. A good vet should be able to pick up a murmor, but I have had vets miss it, so you may want to doublecheck. Cats hide sickness -- a sonogram is the very best to actually see what is going on in organs. good luck. I hope she is OK, if not she will always be with you.
