...in his abdomen.? I just took my Bichon Frise to the vet to get spayed and they told me that his testicals are inside his abdomen. They recommended that I have both of them removed. He was born in June 23, 2007. Do you think I should wait and see if they come down? Please help. Has anyone else had this same problem with their dog?

If you have him done now it will require internal surgery, if you wait it will be less invasive. That's why he told you to wait. They should drop shortly, so I would wait.

You could try waiting, but usually by 6 months if they haven't decended they aren't going to.I'm suprised that when you took him in to get neutered, they didn't just do the surgery while he was still there. It is a slightly more invasive surgery than just a regular neuter, but it isn't any more invasive than a spay for female dogs would be. They make an incision in the lower abdomen and then retrieve the testicles that way. I probably wouldn't wait. I would definately get it done before he's 1 year old. They recover very quickly. They usually bounce back within a day or two. And it reduces the risk of him wanting to lift his leg and pee on everything in the house. Let me know if you have any more questions.

There is still a possibility that they will descend, so I would wait at least a couple of months. It won't do any harm and your boy will be that much older & stronger to cope with what is major surgery. If they don't come down, then you must have him castrated as there is a strong possibility that the testicles will become cancerous.

Go ahead and get him Neutered. You should always ask a vet any questions you have before you leave that office. You are paying for his knowledge, we are good personal opinions and sharing our experiences only. My opinion is condescended testicles could cause health issues for your pet in the foreseeable future, and the younger your little guy gets neutered the better for him.

If they have not come down by now, it is unlikely they will.Yes, you need to have the surgery done. Testicular cancer in cryptorchid dogs (those with undescended testicles) is incredibly high. This is one of the reasons why retained testicles is the ONLY AKC disqualifying fault that covers ALL breeds.. its just that dangerous. Please notify your dog's breeder. Retained testicles are genetic... your breeder will want to know so she can make any necessary adjustments to her breeding plans.
