Should you give a 7 year old a meningitis shot?

There is a case of meningitis (meningococcal C) in a school (not the one my kids go in). I have a 11 year old boy and I think is safe to give him a shot for this illnes, but what about a 7 year old girl?

A few years back in Edmonton all kids under 18 were recommened to get the shot.. I had my son done and I would recommend it.. My son had surgury at the Uof A hospital and I seen a baby who had Mengingitus and the poor thing looked like its arms and legs had rotted off.. i would get them both vaccinated..
