Allergy Free Dog Food?

Hi - I have a 120 lb Bull Mastiff that has food allergies. She is allergic to: Eggs, Fish Mix, Wheat, White Potato, Poultry Mix, Flax, and Rice. I have been checking online for the past few days for any dog food out there that does not contain these ingredients and I haven't found anything. I was wondering if anyone has any recomendations? Thanks in advance for any help! I would really appreciate it.She has been having a lot of skin rashes and Ear infections. The vet suggested a blood allergy test and the results came in that she has food allergies to the listed ingredients that I mentioned.Thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate the help.

Either ask your vet, or make your own food. My lab had food allergies and she was on a strict raw meat and veggies/fruit diet. It gets expensive, but it was all she could eat. Good luck!

just out of curiosity, how do you know your dog is allergic to these things? there are a lot of great diets out there for food allergy dogs, but you might be hardpressed to find one that doesnt contain any of those ingredients.you could try preference which is made by honest kitchen. it is a base food that you would have to add meat to, but you can use any type of meat that your dog isnt allergic to.http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/preference.shtml

Well, I think you would find that if you feed your dog a raw prey model diet- your dog wouldn't be allergic to the eggs, fish, chicken, etc...Dogs are carnivores, and as such, they should only eat meat, bones, and organs. Feeding them veggies, grains, and fruits is just asking for your dog to have allergic reactions or other health issues like skin problems, ear problems, bowel issues, etc.Please go read up about a raw diet. If I had a dog with that many allergies, I'd make his food myself. I do this for my dog. I make him boiled plain chicken and white rice, and I mix in frozen mixed vegetables. I know your dog can't have rice, but maybe you could make him something with sweet potato, beef, or lamb. I think that would be easier than trying to find a commercial food that doesn't include these ingredients. Or you could get a prescription from your vet for Hill's Prescription Diet Z/D. It has those things in it, but it is processed so that the allergenic properties of the food are no longer able to affect your dog. A vet could explain it better than I could, but you have to get this food from a vet.

Boy you have a job on your hands to find a food for your dog. The only one I can suggest is **** Van Pattens. His company makes all kinds of different foods that are not the normal one usually found. Try the raw diet with her. Try beef(steaks-with bones)and corn or peas. Try to look up recipes on the internet for the raw diet for dogs. I hope it helps. I've been researching this for you, and this is the only thing I can think of.

She's probably not allergic to all of them , mainly the wheat, but you never know. Wheat and grains are a major allergen in most dogs, and are a cheap filler for dog food companies. I recommend a RAW diet. It's basically any raw meat you find at the store( I use chicken leg quarters because they are very cheap- 50 cents a pound) and some turkey necks for more calcium.( raw bones don't splinter, they're actually pretty bendable, as a bone) Many people feed only meat and bones, but some prefer to add blended vegetables, the choice is yours. My dog just gets some broccoli and other veggies when I cook every now and then.A very good website to look at is www.rawdogranch.comIt will give you information on what to feed, how, when, and what other things you can add or take out and how to best store it. They have a dog food freezer to stack up on on sale meat, I just use our freezer and restock when I'm almost out since 50 cents is a very good price for me.

Since your dog is allergic to so many things, in my opinion, making meals for her is the best option. You can research RAW/BARF diets. You should also discuss it with your vet and make sure what you choose to feed her is well balanced and she's getting all the nutrients she needs. You can feed her raw meat, despite people saying it's dangerous because of all the bacteria. That bacteria can be dangerous to humans, but dogs immune systems can handle that. The lab we use will actually send us a list of foods that match the allergy test results for the dog. Ask your vet if they have something like this available for you. Makes it much easier.

Hills/ science diet makes a food called Z/D ultra- it is completely different than other dog foods in the way that the proteins and other ingredients have been processed and are metabolized by the dog. It is a prescription dog food only available through your vet. Check into it to see if the ingredient list is ok for your dog or talk to your vet about it. If you cant find a dog food you can always go to a natural diet that you make yourself- with meat and vegetables that are ok for your dog- although this is probably not as convienent for you or as cost effective. You may also have better luck with some prescription canned dog foods- check out hills D/D food as well, another prescription diet- they have several different varieties in canned food with diiferent protien sources such as duck or kangaroo.
