that if you snore alot you will have congestive heart failure.? When you get older. I was hoping he would clarify that more because alot of people snore and I'm sure most of them won't have congestive heart failure. My husband snores and he's not overweight but heart problems run in his family. What are the statistics on heart problems and snoring?

Your correct, many people snore, and not every one that does will have Congestive heart failure, Dr. Phil is a moron, and apparently his guest are also.

I doubt that is what the person actually said. I think that the two are sometimes seen together but snoring is not a cause of congestive heart failure.

My husband also had heart problems and he snored whether he was on his back or side it didn't matter. He had congenital heart disease, and congestive heart failure, there was a long history of it in his family. Have him see the Dr ASAP, mine let it go to long and passed away.

I'm sure they were reffering to "sleep apnea". Your blood oxygen is lowered and the heart is strained. A sleep study will show how bad it is and using a CPAP can be life changing. My husband has used one for 10 years now. We both sleep great!

froglespsk is right. im a med student.i have studied enough to know that this is completely ridiculous.i side with the nurse.Oh and this whole blood apnea thing........not sure where u heard that - becuz its not true. sleeping lowers your heart rate and hence the workload on your heart. you will notice it.....check ur heart right when u wake up and are lying still in bed, and check it in the middle of the day after walking round and doing chores.plus, they say that taking naps does wonders for ur heart as well. like i said before, less strain, less work. Only reason u would have any kind of insufficient oxygen is due to anemia or porphyria. thats a problem with the blood itself.or, if ur a chronic smoker, then i can see ur lungs being diseased and not so effective.-cheers.
they were probably referring to sleep apnea which CAN lead to congestive heart failure....in practice we see many people with sleep apnea drop their oxygen levels, not drop their pulses... but not everyone who snores has periods of not breathing...check with your practicing doctor or see a lung specialist for a sleep study...
