...miscarriage, what could cause this? I noticed blood last night, like it was the first day of my peroid (no clotting, similar to a light nosebleed). THis morning there was barely anything, it was brown. I went to my first appt. today and they said if there's more bleeding, get to the ER. Haven't had sex in a about a week. I have an ultrasound scheduled for Monday. I just want to know, if it's not a miscarriage, why does this happen?

I had a reptured blood vessal in my vagina and a little bit of blood because of that, the docs said it was nothing to worry about and it can happen all the time, esspecially if you were straining to poop or anything like that, but sometimes it just happens for no reason, if the docs said not to worry I wouldnt. But follow the docs orders if you see any more bleeding go straight to the ER do NOT pass go!

I think it is common for pregnant women to have what is called 'spotting'...or light bleeding during their pregnancy...this is one of the reasons why teenage girls (i hate to generalize!) sometimes don't realize they are pregnant until quite far along.I wouldn't worry much...but I would give the doctor a call...just to make sure. I'm sure you are fine!Good luck!

Bleeding is a common complication of pregnancy, with 10–15% of women reporting some bleeding during the first sixteen weeks of pregnancy (Ananth and Savitz, 1994). In general, bleeding is considered to be a risk factor for poor fetal outcomes, including spontaneous abortion, preterm delivery, and low birth weight (Batzofin et al., 1984). However, recall bias may explain some of these findings. Also, the timing of bleeding is difficult to determine retrospectively, and studies have sometimes grouped all bleeding during one trimester or half a trimester of pregnancy (Ananth and Savitz, 1994; Everett, 1997). Because of its timing, bleeding during early pregnancy might be mistaken for menses. Such bleeding has been conjectured to account for errors in gestational age estimation using the last menstrual period (LMP) method (Gjessing et al., 1999), especially among pregnancies that end in miscarriage (Iffy et al., 1972). Vaginal bleeding has also been thought in some cases to accompany implantation (Speert and Guttmacher, 1954). We carried out an analysis of data from a prospective study of 151 naturally-conceived pregnancies in order to explore these issues in more detail.

I had bleeding for one day with my twins. That was the day I found out there were two babies. They didn't know why it happened but the pregnancy went well. My sister had bleed ing with one of hers and the doctor said the placenta had shifted. She had a healthy baby as well. So I just think it happens from time to time. Hope your pregnancy is good and that you have no more worries!
