or s/d for cat's with prior urinary tract problems? Our cat has been on the s/d dry and sometimes wet food for the past year, and the vet says she'll need to eat the c/d for the rest of her life. The food is not cheap, and I'm not sure it's the best for her. I've read some things about the Wellness brand, and was wondering if that was a good food for cats with problems? Thanks to everyone in advance for responding!

Science Diet is absolute crap - let me guess.. you buy it from the vet right?? sure the vet will reccomend it - they are paid to sell it.. infact you may not have known - Vets were PAID to endorse this food..vets often recieve little or NO education on ingredients and brands.. as such they are approached by this food with a clever marketing stratagy.. and then they sell it or promote it in some way... (its not cheap becuase they are paying vets to promote it.. however its ingredients are cheap cheap cheap)Wellness is A LOT BETTER (if you are in Canada go with NUTRAM which is better too)one thing that will help is feeding canned once a day - 1 teaspoon of canned with 2 - 3 teaspoons of water to make a soup - this increases their water in take which helps their urinary tract.. you can do this twice a day if you want.. but once for sure...what ever you do - get off Science Diet - look at the ingredients in the dry - (by-products are cheap filler - beaks feet feathers - they are preserved with a dangerous chemical pesticide Ethoxquin).. Science Diet is crap food with clever marketing plan.. unfortunately alot of pet owners have fallen for it.. i am glad you are considering better.

My cats do brilliantly on Science Diet, but like with any dry food I supplement with wet food like chicken.

I feed my 2 cats Wellness: canned, mostly, but about 1/3 cup of dry every 3-4 days. For any healthy cat I would recommend Wellness, Innova, or any of the other super premium holistic brands over Science Diet any day of the week. For a cat with UT problems I'd suggest you stick with the Science Diet c/d or s/d (which ever your vet prescribes, most likely the c/d). Do ask him if he knows of another product that can meet the needs of your cat with healthier foods than Hill's.Nonetheless, right now what your cat needs most, regarding her diet, is attention to her urinary tract issues. Although Wellness, and others, are excellent brands and incredibly healthy, she has greater needs then they can provide.Wellness cat foods are tailored to cats in general. You need a food made for cats that can't handle too much stress on their urinary tract. And, really, Hill's isn't that bad. I don't like them because they use meat "by-products" and too much grain but I switched my last cat to it when he had UT issues and would both my cats, now, if need be. DO GIVE HER CANNED FOOD. Sorry for the caps but it does make a difference. The canned food has water, a very necessary ingredient for treating UT issues. I give my cats dry food only because they seem to want a few bites of it now and then. Their real diet comes in the form of canned food. Dry food also has a lot of grain in it. Doesn't matter the brand. It simply has to for shelf-life. Cats have no use for grain in their diet. They are obligate carnivores. It has no nutritional value to them. All the healthiest foods in the world won't matter if they end up destroying her kidneys.
