it's not a disease at all, it's an eating disorder, or you could consider it a choice.

well i beleive the initial behavior starts out as a choice but then it gets out of hand and thats where the disease part come in. they are all very serious disorders not to be taken lightly

Diseases. These aren't things that people want to have, but they can't seem to stop. If it was by choice, than anytime that they wanted to stop, they would walk away. These are more of a result of a mental problem, such as low self-esteem, depression, or an event that affected them in a major way.

it depends how bad you have got it really, if your really into your alcohol then maybe its a choice so that you can get drunk and let go of yourself, you might choose to do it because you feel free, like there is no pressure on you when you are drunk.

It may be due to psychological disorder and also due to addictions. It co-exist with eating disorder also. It is a disease and not a choice may be a chance.

All three are choices and diseases. The disease and underlying cause has to be treated. If an alcoholic quits drinking his disease will manifest in another area. This is called "drug of choice". Many people smoke, some finding it more difficult then others to quit because they have the addiction disease. If a person does not have the "addiction" disease it will be much easier for them to quit. So many people do not understand this, they figure "If I can quit, why can't you". There is strong evidence that addiction is in the genes. When a person has an eating disorder they cannot help the fact that they feel fat, it is the illness itself that makes them feel that way. Using the word "choice" is not as simple as it seems, as choice is far different for a person with the illness and someone without it.

I would classify that as an oxymoron. You either have bulimia or anorexia but not both. However in either situation you could have someone who goes through a binge-purge cycle. Alcoholism is a whole other issue that I'm sure goes hand-in-hand with a large percentage of people who have an eating disorder. I think all three could start out as a choice, but if you have a predeposition, could end up with the disease.

The first diet and the first drink are choices. When they become uncontrollable they are disorders.Anyone who claims anorexia is a choice doesn't fully understand the thought patterns that anorexics go through. You can't choose thought patterns. You can choose not to seek help which could be seen as choosing the disorder, but usually this is a result of the faulty thought patterns rather than a fully conscious decision.
