An injection on the arm. Then after a few days, that site is check to see if you have had a positive or negative reaction. It is a very easy test. Nothing to worry about. Just a little poke. Doesn't hurt at all.

A PPD test is one method used for detecting tuberculosis. The protein derivative is injected underneath the top layer of skin on the inner forearm. In 3-5 days, it should be checked by a healthcare provider to see if there was any swelling at the injection site. If there is a raised bump, it is measured (in millimeters). Depending on the size of the bump, you may or may not be positive for tuberculosis. There are certain cutoffs for the measurements depending on your preexisting medical conditions and past medical history, so a bump does not necessarily mean that you have tuberculosis.
