i've been told that it's because your eyes are drying, so you need to blink hard often, they tell me this works ?

I would suggest seeing your doctor. It could be allergies, or something they call "chronic dry eye", which means your eyes don't produce enough natural tears. Either way, the doctor can give you the best advice. But please, stop rubbing them! It really doesn't help, it only adds to the irritation. My BFF was diagnosed with "chronic dry eye" but only after he'd been rubbing his eyes so much that he actual managed to warp his corneas! Now his perfect 20/20 vision is gone and he may need a corneal transplant if the damage doesn't reverse itself. Please stop rubbing them?!

Don't take it lightly, it might be something extremely serious. Glaucoma is an eye condition which causes blindness due to increased pressure in the eye ball. The symptoms of glaucoma (which mostly don't show up) are red eyes, headaches, eye aches....You might have dry eyes as well, that will cause you to get red eyes. For that you could get the fake/synthetic tears from any drug store, and use them temporarily, keep in mind that every medicine has long term side effects, read the label of the synthetic tears to check what are its side effects. I don't remember but I think they're side effects include chronic dry eyes or red eyes. So, watch out!If this redness just started by itself (meaning, you didn't stress your eyes by using a computer for long periods recently, or haven't been studying for long hours, (and you are not allergic to anything)) then this might be caused by poor diet. You will need to eat foods that have the vitamins and minerals that are required for eyes, like Vitamin A and B12.
