View Full Version : Toothache!!!! Help!!!!?
I had a dental filling come out in June this year. Tooth became really sensitive but not to touch (just hot and cold stuff)...had the tooth emergency filled (temporary 6 month filling, I was told)...it has now started throbbing painfully (really bad at night)...it is still not painful to touch or put pressure on but hurts just the same...I know I should go back and get it sorted but any ideas what it is or advice on painkillers I should take...unitl I can get an appointment...

It sounds like you need a root canal, but, I'm not going to give you any medical advice, and you should certainly not take any such from strangers. See your dentist immediately.

Ask your dentist for some vicodin.
Put some cloves powder on the tooth, it's an analgesic like anything over the counter, but you need to go back to the dentist ASAP.

dissolve a painkiller on top of the tooth, if you can tolerate the awful taste. a paracetamol or aspirin, it does work honestly, my husband does it.

I'd get into see the dentist as soon as possible. You could be getting a infection. I'd take some Motrin 600-800MG every 6 hours (as needed)

more than likely you need a root canal now. If in pain take a pain killer and an antiinflammatory together such as nurofen plus. but you need to see your dentist asap as infection will only get worse and you need an antibiotic before any work is done on tooth

you definitely have infection and why should you wait and suffer in silence? as you get the infection under control, you will already stop feeling any pain. antibiotics is the answer. phone the nhs on 08454647. give them your post code and they will find a hospital which offers emergency treatment the very next morning, free and without appointment. get your antibiotics from there and see your infection disappear. then have it looked at properly. dull pain is really bad and i hope you do this tomorrow.good luck and enjoy a life without pain.

a temporary measure is place a pinch of household salt into the tooth this will ease pain but TEMPORARILY.
Please don't do as biscuits recommends and dissolve an aspirin on the tooth. The only effect this has (besides a possible placebo) is to give your gingiva an ulcer from the acid in the aspirin. No one on this site, including any dentists, can tell you what you need. You need to see a dentist in person as soon as you can. Diagnosis will be made following various tests and questions to determine your signs and symptoms. Then a treatment plan can be formulated to take care of your pain.

Your tooth seems to be infected. Your symptoms seem to show that the nerve inside of your tooth is dying. Your filling likely fell out because there was decay around it. I don't know who put in a temp filling and gave you 6 months, but it should have been taken care of immediately! Decay in your tooth is a disease of the tooth structure and can affect the rest of your overall health. You may also have an abcess. You need to seek immediate dental treatment! Take 2extra strength tylenol and 2 ibuprofen together every 4 hours. This will give the same pain-killing affect as a low grade narcotic.
