I was put on birth control pills when I was a 16 year old virgin because I used to have severe menstrual cramps. Being on the pill helped somewhat. I still had cramps but they weren't so severe. I also gained a lot of weight which I thought was a major drawback. And I just remembered that I became depressed when I went on the pill so the doctor put me on another brand of birth control pills and I felt better mentally.Hormone pills of any kind are strong and can really cause a lot of side effects. Some quite serious.

There are so many different pills to choose from. Some allow you to have your period every few months, however with most pills you still get your period every month. Really the decision is up to you, i'd talk it over with your doc though. Also different pills have different side effects but many actually help with acne and weight, as well as keeping your periods regular and sometimes reducing the cramps. Others increase weight gain so its really best to see your doctor about this one, everyone's body reacts differently to different pills!! good luck!! =)

The pill, depending on which type, can allow you to have either regular monthly periods (get for women that have those irregular cycles) or even limit your periods to four times a year. Either way, it makes it easier to avoid having a period during a special occasion - like school dances, etc. I've used both types of pills and my personal preference is to have a period four times a year. Who really wants the cramping and bleeding every single month? The only set back is when you get older and decide to have a baby, it can take awhile for your body to readjust to not having the birth control pills in the system.
