It started 10 months ago. Coughing all day long with mucus being expelled each time. These 'attacks' lasted 2 mins to 15 mins which often resulted in me vomiting and bladder weakness. My noise streams like a tap at the same time as well. I have found dry, crumbly or spicy food aggravate my cough. Or hot environments. I got some relief from sipping water and blowing my nose but suffered sleepless nights and coughed so much I couldnt leave the house! My doc gave me antibiotics did nothing. Then tried me on a rescue inhaler. I found at first this had no affect then it helped ease my coughing spells as soon as they started. Since then I have been refered to a chest clinic at my local hospital. I am now on the rescue inhaler, a steroid combo inhaler 2x a day, nasal spray, antihistomines and singulair tabs. This combo has improved my symptoms by about 50% but I am still getting the coughing attacks on and off throughout the week. Does this sound like asthma, even with no typical wheezing??Tara - Yes the post nasal drip is a real problem for me. I am constantly blowing my nose when these coughing fits starts and it does help to relieve it in some way. My throat itches a lot as well and I find my voice sometimes goes and I have to clear it a lot (maybe the meds) I have also used a nasal wash and found I can at least get a good nights sleep..no more 5am wakeups! Only problem is the solution I use for that is very expensive and not available on prescription! My Doc gave me two seperate but continuous courses of antibiotics when I first told him of my symptoms. Would these have not shifted any sinus infection??I have improved a lot since meds were started but still get these coughing fits. Some days I will be fine, others I just dont feel like leaving my house! Also like you Tara when I had a cold my symptoms became severe. The vomiting from coughing came back & I developed a slight wheeze that I could hear while lying down. Thats the only time I have ever wheezed...Ryan C - Sorry forgot to mention but physical activity is a trigger for me. ie: exercising or dancing...although I dont start coughing until after I have stopped.

i have asthma, and the coughing thing definitely sounds like it.asthma is just breathing though,so i'm not quite sure about the nasal issues.

To me, it sounds like a combo of asthma and a very stubborn sinus infection. When I have an asthma attack, I usually cough uncontrollably for several minutes, so it is possible that you're having an attack when you have these episodes. I also have very bad post nasal drip, so when I have a cold or sinus infection my asthma gets very bad, and it's very hard to get control of it once an infection starts.Good luck!

Im pretty sure its not asthma because im sure the doctors would have found it out by now.i have asthma and half of those things happen too me.But wheezing is a BIG sign that you have asthma,It sounds like lung problems or mucus conjustion to me

It most definitely does not sound like asthma.Asthma would have symptoms plainly from physical activity, or lung-aggrivation.Your symptoms do not sound normal, and are not like anything I've ever heard of. If you are on medication, and it's working, then good.Try a symptom checker...I checked on WebMD: it says you're most likely to have Chronic Bronchitis..That's what it sounds like.Hope it helps, and I hope you feel better =[

Wow. That's nasty. Not being a doctor, I can't diagnose what you've got but it doesn't sound like you've just got asthma by itself. It's like you've developed an allergy to something and the asthma-like symptoms are just one of the reactions to it. As an aside, wheezing doesn't necessarily have to be part of asthma. I'm asthmatic and I don't always wheeze but I always get that tightness in the chest like someone's crushing me. Have you tried to find out what's causing all your trouble? The drugs you've been prescribed are suppressing the symptoms to a certain extent but perhaps there are factors in your environment which are driving your system into overdrive.I'd also suggest going elsewhere for a second opinion or to a specialist. It would be horrible to think you're suffering in this way if it can be helped.

Hi,i got something similar to you, when i go to bed i wake up about two to fore hours later because the fluids in my sinuses run down my wind pipe get in my lungs as far as i know,i then wake up coughing and hared to breath,i then have two puffs with my Ventolin inhaler that helps me to breath but then i have to get rid of what has collected on my chest,i have tried sleeping sitting upright it don't work for me i end up biting my tongue nodding off,i have had the steroid inhaler not got on with it,all the antibiotics but they don't work anymore, asthma can be brought on by loads of different things,
