Hi, I'm 38 and I've been on Yasmin BCP for about 18 months and have fallen pregnant. I'm wondering how this has happened. I do remember about 6 weeks ago feeling sick and upset in the stomach so could that have affected the pill and stopped it from working properly? Has anyone else fallen pregnant while on the pill? Is the pill really 100% effective to prevent pregnancy??

All birth control is only 99% effective so this is always that 1% cChance you can get pregnant

No drug is 100% effective. Also there are other things that might reduce the effectiveness of birth control. It happens.

I got pregnant while on Tri-cyclen, even though I was taking them on time. The pill is about 99% effective, but medications and even alcohol can reduce the effectiveness of the pill. And if when you were sick, you vomited within a few hours of taking one of your pills then it's like you didnt take that one at all.

I got pregnant on Ortho Trycyclin Lo. Most say you are still protected from pregnancy even if you take antibiotics. That's the only reason I can come up with, I was on antibiotics for a bug bite and found out I was pregnant.... also, there is a 1% chance and nothing is 100% effective except abstinence!

like all forms of birth control apart from completely refraining from intercourse the pill is not 100 percent effective. Yes, the problem with the pill is you need to remember to take it the same time each day and to double your protection if you have any incidents of stomach upset resulting in vomiting. However in my case I am really glad of the result as he is 15 now tall blond blue eyed and really cute like me. Good luck!

no, the pill is not 100% effective, no birth control is. and no, a stomach ache will not stop your birth control's effectiveness. birth control pills work by forming a chemical barrier between the sperm and your cervix (that barrier only lasts for 24 hours) and they prevent ovulation BUT if you don't take the pill at the same time every day it increases the likelihood of conceiving.
