...over the counter at a place like wal-mart? I need know if I must worry about my younger sister buying these without my knowing. She's in a new relationship and this guy is very obviously wanting/pushing her into doing things. She is 16 and he is 17, he's not able to buy them for her, is he?The last I heard about young girls being able to buy the pills, was that they could simply go to a planned parent-hood and get them for free or for a small price. I also heard of a few 16 year olds buying them from wal-mart, however, I don't know if they had help getting them.

I am from Australia and I'm not entirely sure how it works in your country but these things can not be bought over the counter from anywhere - the only place you can buy them is from a chemist with a doctors prescription! They do questonnaires and things before prescribing them. Talk to her about your worries and tell this guy to back off a little, she is only 16!

The morning after pill (Plan B) is only available to people (men or women) OVER the age of 18. Anyone under the age of 18 years of age must have a valid prescription from a licensed MD.

Contraceptive pills are a prescription drug. No one can buy them over the counter. He could and should be buying condoms. If you are over 16, why don't you know this stuff. Did you go to a school where they forbid "sex ed"? Go to the library and read up on this stuff.

contraceptive pills are not available over the counter. the plan B pill (a.k.a. the morning after pill) is available over the counter at age 18+ in most states. if your sister is considering sex, however, make sure shes aware of the risks, and discuss safe sexual practices with her, regardless of the awkwardness factor. best of luck! planned parenthood will provide HER with the pills, only in extreme circumstances, however. and, they also will scare her so bad i doubt shed ever want to have sex!

The only way to get oral contraceptives is with a doctor's prescription. The only over the counter pill is the morning after pill. It's about $40.00 and you have to show proof of ID, and be 18 years of age.

It's a sticky situation, but you also need to check your state laws. Women's clinics can also help as well, but make sure they're unbiased. They can direct her and her boyfriend to the right resources. And, if you're truly concerned, you have to tell your parents. You need parental consent if you go to places like Planned Parenthood and as someone has already mentioned -- you must be over 18 with proper I.D. in order to buy it over the counter.
