my dog is 10 years old and is taking medication for her allergies. Now she is having nose bleeds daily. What is wrong with her? The emergency vet is 1 hour away.

The medicine may be drying out her mucus membrane. I'm not sure thought. The question was to vauge to tell.At least give the emregency clinic a call. If its an emergency they will tell you to come down right away if not set up an appointment with your Vet for check up.Good Luck

That doesn't exactly sound good. Did you try to give the Emergency Vet a call, maybe they could give you some answers. Or atleast give you a heads up on what to do till you can see your regular vet.

I have had and raised dogs since 1969 and the only dog I had that got nose bleeds had cancer. I am not saying your dog does, but do get the dog checked out. It could be a side affect of her medication but that doesn't sound too logical.

yeah! if it just started after she was given the allergy meds i would think that it was due to it!maybe it is drying it out as one suggested and causing it to become more irritated!Call your Vet asap!

I would suggest you at least calling the ER vet and explaining the situation to them. They can tell you weather it is an emergency, or if the medicine is causing it. You can also try using over the counter nasal spray, just the normal saline spray. It could be just that her nasal membranes are dry from the medicine. Good Luck.
