takes 10-15 feet to stop. What's the problem? I replaced the pads with good ones but they do the same thing. Anyone have an answer to this? Thanks!

Seems like a reasonable stopping distance. If you stopped any faster that that, you'd go flying over the handlenbars.

yeah, that seems alright. does it have a free wheel or is it a track style with a locked cog? if its a locked cog you need to use to the crank to assist .
I agree with answers so far 10-15 feet is fine for 1 brake from a good speed. From 5 or 10mph no. Aside from what others have mentioned what brake are you using? Try a nice beefy dual pivot brake - there are many but a typical Shimano 105 type should work well. A single pivot is much weaker.Obviously one brake will not stop as fast as 2. You replaced the pads - but what are "good ones"? Unfortunately, I just use standard Shimano pads on mine since they always work fine and don't know what brands/types might offer better stopping - likely at the cost of more wear. Maybe wet weather type pads would impove your braking.

check pads or check the wires to make sure they work

If you're currently using an older style single pivot caliper (both arms rotating around a single bolt in the center) you'll get much more stopping power by upgrading to a newer dual pivot type.

Weird question. Why front and only brake ?Why single speed "road bike" ?Sounds like you are riding a track bike that someone has added a front brake to. But why would you be riding a track bike and not know how to stop it ?
