The prognosis depends on the type of lung cancer, its stage, and the overall health of the patient. Due to improvements in surgical technique and the development of new approaches to treatment, the one-year survival rate for lung cancer has improved considerably. One-third of patients with early stages of non-small cell lung cancer could be cured with surgery alone. This percentage is much smaller in patients with early stage small cell cancers -- less than five percent. In the majority of patients in whom cure is not possible survival may vary from months to years, depending on the extent of the cancer, the overall condition of the patient, as well as his/her response to treatment and the duration of that response. In general, only 14 percent of patients with lung cancer survive for more than five years after diagnosis. If the lung cancer is detected before it has had a chance to spread to other organs, and if it is treated appropriately, at least 49% of patients can survive five years or longer after the initial diagnosis. Only 15% of lung cancers, however, are found at this early stage. About 10 per cent of patients can expect to be 'cured' - that is alive five years after diagnosis with no evidence of the cancer having returned. Because many people die from lung cancer, terminal care is usually necessary. Advances in end-of-life care, particularly the recognition that anxiety and pain are common in people with incurable lung cancer and that they can be alleviated by appropriate drugs, have led to an increasing number of people being able to die comfortably at home.

Lung cancer is very very bad. The survival rate is really low even detected early.Sorry. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have had experience with this.So make the most of the time you have with him. And make sure he stays comfortable.

Lung cancer is the malignant transformation and expansion of lung tissue, and is responsible for 1.3 million deaths worldwide annually.[1] It is the most common cause of cancer-related death in men, and the second most common in women.[2][3]Treatment for lung cancer depends on the cancer's specific cell type, how far it has spread, and the patient's performance status. Common treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The 5-year overall survival rate is 14%.[12]Best of Luck for your auncle!

im sorry but generally 2% - 4% he will get the all clear but sometimes with prompt treatment people get over it ,try not to worry and just be their for your uncle and support him, even if he doesn't get the all clear he may still live for 10 years or more it just varies from person to person

depends got a friend, with it lost one lung, was??? cured????! now unfortunately, it has gone to the other lung, had been in remission for 8 years and 1 year ago, was told to literally settle final affairs, because > near, actually still going, on living so it actually depends on that persons "iron will to cope"
