is canine kidney disease genetic?

my 5 year old irish setter recentaly passed away with kidney faliure i want to know if its anything to do with breeding

It can be genetic which would be passed on in breeding, or it can be congenital. Your dog was rather young, but it can also be a condition of age. Many senior dogs begin to have kidney problems in their last years. Our 13 yr old pointer mix has been diagnosed in the last 6 months and my daughter-in-law's 18 yr old Pom died of kidney failure earlier this year.
