...forget instantly and can't focus on anything anymore. I recently was pregnant and had to have my labor induced 6 weeks early because I had Heart Faliure. They did all kinds of test while the baby was still inside of me. CAT scans, ECOS, ect... Finally they induced. Now I am on Coreg, Digoxen, Lasix, Lusinaprel, and one more. Plus I have to ake asprin everyday. They said that my heart only works at 20% now. WOW.My concern is; why the hell can't I remember anything any more. I forget important stuff almost instantly. I'm almost in tears trying to figure out what it was I was going to do. Why is this happening to me?? I'm only 34. What's going on inside of me??

With heart failure you get less oxygen to the brain than normal. It causes memory loss. Also you just had a baby, new mothers OFTEN suffer memory loss. You need to talk to your doctor about this. I would question the 20% also as anything under 33% is considered very questionable for survival.

The brain needs oxygen almost every second. Heart failure promotes lact of oxygen to the brain. A couple of minutes with heart failure will leave you braindead. You're so lucky.

I work in the medical field, in addition to any medications you are taking that may impair your cognition, you may have experienced what is called anoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain due to decreased blood flow). This can cause what is called TBI (traumatic brain injury), because the brain is deprived of oxygen & nutrients.Seek the advice of a neurologist and request a MRI or CAT scan. These types of injuries are not immediately visible, however, after a few days can be diagnosed. A speech-language pathologist can do further evaluations to determine the extent of your impairments and provide therapy to help you regain these cognitive functions.

After heart failure abnormal levels of certain substances in the blood, such as sodium, or reduced blood flow to the brain can cause memory loss or disorientation. This is typical to a patient recovering from heart failure. You must watch your diet including your salt intake to alleviate this.Fortunately, many people do return to their normal level of cognitive function. One study showed that most patients who experienced cognitive decline returned to normal within 6 to 12 months.
