Dear sir/madam..
i'm 57 years old women, actively involved in running my business besides having full social life.My childrens are all grown up and well setteled and my husband has retired from work.I do not exercise at all and eat in moderation. However, over the past six years i have steadly been gaining weight.I am 5 feet two inch tall and weight 79 kilos.I also smoke and drink regularly.Although i do not have any major health problems,I do take medication for high blood pressure.Of late i have been feeling heaviness in my chest and dull pain.I also have persistent cough especially at night.
Do i need to seek medical attention?
Could this signal the onset of a heart problem?
There is a history of heart aliment in my family where my brother, sister and father passed away due to the same.

waiting for your reply anyone please

Dear ms sabita
I'm glad you are now concerned about your health!.
Indeed you are at risk to develop heart and lung diseases.High blood pressure, family history of heart disease, physical inactivity and being over weight, all are established risk factors to develop heart diseases.
With five feet and two inch of height, you need to be around 60kg.So you need to see a dietician and start some regular workouts so you can gradually plan to loose about 20 kgs of weight.
Smoking is disastrous. You need to make up your mind now and understand the risk involved with continued smoking. If you want to avoid hanging on to oxygen cylinders, need of gulping too many medicines and spending a lot time in hospitals, you need to quit smoking immediately.
Yes you need to see a physician, get yourself properly checked and may be start on some preventive medicaltions.
One passing comment... many times you may just decide to take care of your health more seriously because you have desire to see and take care of your family,children,grand-childrens for many more decates.I am quite sure this you do.

Here's a quick fix solution to all your health problems - A 15 min brisk walk a day. Yes as naivve it may sound, it totally works. I lost 10 pounds last summer in 3 months, without a diet, by only walking.
Hope this helps Sabita,
Take care

As we grow older, we become more vulnerable to ailments. The necessity then of a regular check up should not be overlooked. Your doctor can provide you the right guide and doable ways in making yourself fit and healthy. Definitely doing regular exercise is a must.

I think it would be a good idea to check things up as you can never be too careful when it comes to health. May I suggest giving up smoking as well, as smoking ususally aggrevates any problems that you might have relating to your lungs ot whatever.

according to the height described your weight is much high. i think you should go for a jogging every morning and take a deep breaths for 10 minutes. its really a good care for your health.

nothing is best than morning walk, jogging and hello please leave the drink habit. alcohol makes you grow fat.
