Hi there, anybody out there even been told that they have high levels of blood and protein in their urine? For about 5 months now I have been experiencing lower back pain. When I was at the Dr last week I explained about the pain told her that there was no burning or pain when passing urine. She took a sample of my urine and told me about the blood and urine. My stomach is swollen and my fingers and face get really swollen and I am constantly knackered. The pain is now sharp just a dull ache but it is wearing me down. I have been given pills but not helping. Should I go back to the Dr. Dr's and hospitals scare the hell out of me but feel something is not right.

Get a referral to a nephrologist, (kidney specialist), you may have kidney stones or worse. They will be able to do more tests, like a spiral CT or ultrasound that could show more information. Good luck.

i would go back to the doctors and insist on having x-rays - i had a large kidney stone that my doctor didn't diagnose for 3 months and i was in agony.if it is a kidney stone if it moves the pain will be horrific - get it checked out properly before this happens.

get to a kidney specialist as soon as you are able.my sister and father both have kidney failure and what you are describing is pretty much the same as what they were experiencing. i understand about drs and hospitals being scarey but the alternative is worse dont you think?best to see the right dr and confirm or rule things out, so please dont wait any longer.

Yes you definitely need to go back perhaps the medication doesn't suit you and you need to try something else. You need to sort this out as a kidney problem needs sorting sooner rather than later and if you're feeling tired and you are swollen up especially. Did the GP give you diuretics (water tablets)? Maybe you need these to sort out the abdominal swelling and this can take a while to disperse sometimes. I'm not very fond of going to the GP's either and I put off going with worrying symptoms for quite a while, to my cost, and I ended up getting worse so don't be stupid like me and get it sorted out now if you're not getting any better, you shouldn't suffer when there's no need. I hope you're feeling better soon and more like your old self, take care!

go back and ask for a kidney scan or to be referred to a urologist

Having had kidney stones on and off for the past 12 years it sure sounds like you need to get into a urologist. They will probably want do an IVP (die in your system) test to check for stones and placement of the stones. I will suggest that the longer the stone stays the bigger it will probably get. Depending on placement of the kidney stone they may do a basket retrieval procedure, or decide on lithotripsey if the stone does not pass on its own. Do not let this scare you as these procedures are not nearly as bad as they sound and the relief of having the pain gone is well worth it. The stone will be sent to the lab to determine what type it is. You may be referred to a Nephrologist after this procedure. He will help you with what types of food and drink you should stay away from depending on what type of stone you had. They will also closely monitor your urine to see how well the kidneys are functioning. Good Luck (make that appointment tomorrow).
