I had Chinese herbal medicine, prescribed by my Acupuncturist who is also fully trained in Chinese herbs. They were for digestive problems. We tried 3 different prescriptions with no noticeable improvement. I had faith in the practitioner and was disappointed when it didn't work. By the way, I cannot remember exactly how long I took them but it was over several weeks each time in order to give them time to work. In the end I started eating All Bran and my symptoms improved!

That's probably not good, as far as the money goes. There are definitely cost effective ways to use supplements, but you'll probably be best off talking to a pharmacist or a professional who is willing to advise you, rather than sell to you. That way you can use products geared toward your actual symptoms in a well-informed fashion. These medicines really can work for you though. Most mainstream drugs are derived from plants, or modified version of compounds taken from plants, so there is some merit in using them.

First of all you should not pay more than $30-$40 per bottle, or package (max)which is good for 10 days. Second it takes a while for your body to respond to the treatment, and once you start you can continue the herbal supplement for a good six months. The whole point is balancing your system which is a process. Good luck!
