She is a 15 year old Manx. It seems to come and go but this morn it was real bad. She could barely get in her bed, or do anything. Tonight shes a little better, but I'm taking her in tomorrow to see if I can get anything to help her. Other than the arthritis she is really healthy for her age. What could I give her or do to ease the pain?P.S. To anyone who says have her put down, please also advise which one of your human family members you plan to put down when they get old.

We use to give our a dog a pill people use for arthritis, our vet suggested it and so did our neighbors who used it on their older dogs too. Ask your vet for any meds he/she could give the cat.

There really isn't anything short of putting her down that you can do unless the doc has some sort of miracle cure. Who knows, maybe cortizone injections work on animals like they do humans...just be with your kitty for tonight and write down questions to take to the vet tomorrow so you don't forget them. Expect the best, but prepare for the worst. Good luck to you and your fuzzy tailless ball of happiness.

They do make meds for pets that have arthritis, don't worry. My aunt has three dogs, and ALL of them are on medication for it. It helps a lot!

You can get cream I believe from your vet that can help her out. I suggest you go speak with the vet, they will be able to give you a management plan and IF the time ever comes when she would be better of put to sleep for her own benefit. (QUOTE: "P.S. To anyone who says have her put down, please also advise which one of your human family members you plan to put down when they get old." - I'll help give them the injection!!!!!)

Just keep her comfy in a bed and keep water, food and litter box close to her so she doesn't have to walk a lot. Since you're going to the vet tomorrow, I wouldn't give her anything unless the vet prescribed it. Since she is older, she is weaker... she's not in the state you would want to self medicate. Were you in an area where there was alot of rain? Sometimes when the weather is bad, my dog will suffer from bad arthritis. He just takes a break the whole day and rest on his couch.

There are some medications that could help, you can get them from any vet. You could try a glucosamine supplement like Cosequin and pair it with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain medicine like Metacam. It's the best thing they can do medically for her that I know of.

I am sure the vet will prescribe something. My mom had a cat that lived to the ripe old age of 21. SHe took a product called cosequin for cats, and received veterinary acupuncture when the meds seemed to stop working. The acupuncture seemed to work the best. The last few months of her life she was jumping up on the couch and chairs again, into the window sills, and even started going outside to play again.
