Cosamin DS,1 capsule three times a day for a month,then 1 capsule daily.Also salmon oil,1000 mg. softgel twice a day,and for pain,Ecotrin (enteric -coated aspirin,) For a coonhound,I would give one tablet two or three times a day with food. You can buy all of these at most drugstores.Don't use Tylenol or Advil as these can cause serious side effects.The Cosamin is just a glucosamine/chondroitin formula,but it is the only one proven to actually help.Give all three products together.

I had my dog on Syn-Flex. She couldn't jump up on the bed anymore and then after 6 weeks of being on Syn-Flex she was running an jumping like a puppy again. I was really shocked as I had my doubts that anything could help her and boy was I pleasantly surprised. I also use Coseqin. They are both used for humans as well as dogs. I am so glad you want to help your dog. These products really work. I use the cosequin for preventative and the Syn-Flex once the arthritis is becoming painful. Below are websites.

The "nutraceuticals" are safe for dogs, individual response varies, a dog that size would take 1 to 2 times a human dosage. Glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM are all safe for dogs. There is a newer one too, a milk protein derivative, but I can't remember its name right now.

We gave our Golden Retriever rice for her arthritis. You can also look for glucosamine. They should have it in your local pet store. Evening primrose oil is also supposed to help.

There is an ingriedient that is found in both people and dog fooods and treats that will work it is called Glucosamine. It is a natural amino acid or sugar used to aid in arthritis and osteoporosis.. I do not have to telly you that you should watch the people food you give a dog as it can make them fatter than dog fooods and treats which can only add to the arthritis problem as in more weight to carry on a already sore body.. You may want to consider switching to a senior dog food that has that ingredient already (Glucosamine).. Or search for foods that would be low in fat that have it.. Your body and dogs naturally make this but as we get older it seams we need more.. It also helps in hip Dysplesia for dogs does not cure it but with enough it can give some relief if started before the on set of hip Dysplasia it can significannly slow down when you would get that or arthritis.. I have a Bassett hound commen Breed with Hip Dysplasia and arthritis because of the large body on a small frame. He is 13 and has neither and I have switched to a food with that in it when he was 7.. More expensive food but you have to feed him less because it has more helathy stuff that gets him full faster, sort of like McDonalds or a nice home cooked meal the home cooked meal stays with you longer and keeps you full longer...I do believe that Peanut Butter may have that as well as Salmon if I remember my reasearch when searching for my dog and I do give him peanut Butter every few days in a kong and he loves it..
