My cousin and her son moved in with me about 4 months ago and I watch him just about every night..When they first moved in, he got a nose bleed at my brothers house as he hit his nose trying to get up on the couch.. which is understandable..but then got another one about a week later..He hadn`t got any for a while.. and now we moved into a new place with BEIGE carpeting and the past week has had 2 nose bleeds... I never had one so I cant imagine why he would have so many and the funny thing is that his mom said since he was born had only had 2 until he moved here..I can't tell if his nose is just very sensitive.. or there may be something wrong.. We are going to take him to the doctor but I was just curious if any one had any experience with this and it turned out to be something more serious?...Thanks

It could be something with his sinuses. Maybe there's something in your house he's allergic to.

I don't know if it could be something serious, but I do know that small children tend to put their fingers up their noses a lot - and that can be a contributory factor.

It's always a good idea to take him to the doctor to get checked out but it is probably nothing serious. My son gets nose bleeds frequently(really bad ones!) and our doctor said it was due to the climate- we live in a dry area. You didn't say where your nephew moved from but that sounds like a possibility. Try keeping a humidifier in the house (or in his room) especially in the colder months when you have to run the heater. Good Luck!

I had constant nosebleeds as a child and I also bruise very easily. My father and brother were the same way. In my case it's hereditary. The nosebleeds were usually brought on by very dry air, so you may want to try a humidifier. I would bring him to the doctor, though, because there are a host of other causes that it could be.Kim at: http://www.peaceful-organic-planet.com

My eight year old son has also been through phases of having nose bleeds. He does seem to have a more sensitive nose than his brother or sister, but then he does bump into things and pick his nose (lovely habit, I know) more often than they do. I think what also happens is that an old 'bleed' will clot and then scab, and this gets uncomfortable and a bit itchy inside his nose, so he picks it and makes it bleed again. I find that he rarely gets nose bleeds now, unless it's really hot at night and then he will sometimes get one (or else a football in the face, which happened recently). There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong, and he's a healthy lad otherwise. If you or your cousin are still worried or think that the nose bleeds don't have a clear cause (like a bump or exploring finger..) then check with your doctor. (And invest in some really good stain remover - in the UK we have Vanish, which is brilliant with blood on fabric, if you're interested!)Charlotte x

My daughter (almost 3 yrs) gets a lot of nosebleeds. It gets worse when it is dry (like if we have the heat or AC going a lot). Her Dr. said its nothing to worry about as long as they stop in a reasonable amount of time - and as long as they don't bleed out of both nostrils at the same time (thats unusual). So its probably just dryer in your house than his old house. Try a humidifier - that helps my daughter.FYI, I would take him to the Dr just to be safe.

I wouldn't worry. My 10 year old brother has been getting them forever, just doing things like sitting in the car it has bleed extremely badly. Some kids tend to get nose bleeds a lot easier than others.

I had them a lot as a child, I remember our doctor saying there were several reasons, mostly related to changes in humidity or altitude. If the child has recently moved, this could very likely explain the sudden frequency. One thing my daughter's pediatrician recommends is a thin layer of vaseline applied with a q-tip to the inside of the nose - it prevents the walls from drying out, which prevents nosebleeds.I'm sure he's fine, though. Some of us are just more sensitive to the weather than others. :)
