My grandma had multiple sclerosis, and dies from it around the age of 60.. I have been told that it skips a generation. Which means it skipped my dad and then it would come to me. I am 24 and am just wondering if anyone knows much about this ? I have been reading about it on the internet but I can't find anything about how it is passed on

News has just come out that researchers in Miami have isolated two genes that cause MS, so it stands to reason those genes are passed down. Then the theory is that a virus, bacteria or other event triggers the genes into activating MS. I've never heard that MS skips a generation and in fact have personally known sisters who have MS, mothers and daughters who have MS, cousins... and so on. There are also studies that show that a deficiency of Vitamin D in the body is associated with MS. You could do a search on Vitamin D and MS and I'm sure you would find plenty of information. You can also search Multiple Sclerosis Genes Miami and get more articles about this very recent genetic news. I will add one link for you. Good luck and don't worry about MS. Now there are treatments for MS! Sharon
