There are basically 2 types of lung cancer; small cell and large cell. Small cell, when discovered usually produces death within 6 mos to yr MAX. The other type is treatable, particularly if detected early, with Chemo, radiation and supportive care.

it depends on how far it has spread or the health or performance of the person.

Cancer spreads by glandular (glands) or pulmonary (blood). There are small cell & large cell cancer.Stages or levels determinining how advanced.Plus numerous types for each area attacked. My friend diagnosed with a fast growing lung cancer that also spread to create a malignant (cancerous) brain tumor. Emergency surgery on brain tumor to save live, when stable radiation on brain area & removal of part of lung. It was traveling thru the blood and diagnosed at level 4 (advanced) with 3-4 month life span. That was 10 1/2 years ago. Still a remission? Mystery? Miracle? Doctors still shaking their heads in disbelief!
