Blood is screened for antibodies to the HIV virus. In the United States, at least two different types have to be positive in order for the result to be considered positive. Western blot, Elisa and IFA's are common types of testing done.If a person is HIV positive, their blood is often tested for the amount of virus present, called a viral load test. Changes in viral load can determine if drug treatments are effective. These are nucleic acid tests.Good question!

HIV test is a blood test that can detect HIV. There are two possible test that can be done, the ELISA- if you turn out possitive to ELISA then the confirmatory test can be done wich is the WESTERN BLOT.
