I ran 7 miles straight on my treadmill yesterday, the back of my right calve is in pain when I walk. I have been running 10 miles everday for almost two weeks. You think something can happen (e.g. "tear" a muscle) if I continue with this 10 mile routine today? If I should give it a rest, how long do you think I that would take? What medicine/what should I do to heal the pain fast so I can get back running again?

take a couple of Advil, soak in a hottub for 30 minutes and then ice them for another 30 minutes.

put some icy hot on it or ice it for an hour then wrap a heat pad around it for an hour

First and foremost stop. It's the best thing you can do. When you feel pain, and it continues, you need to give it a rest for at least two days. Within these days, go on a heat/ce routine. 30 min heat, break for 5, 30 min ice. Best thing would be is to get a heat pad. I play pro baseball, and go through these pains quit often. Right after you finish your ice/heat routine. Wrap the calf strain with a medium grip. Try to do this twice a day, for two days. On the thirs day, go back to your routine, and EASE into it. Instead of 10 today, do 5, and keep it light.Bottom line: The more you push it, the worse it can get. Rest is often the ticket for a quick recovery.Good luck!

First stretch really good and apply some icey hot to help relax the muscles. Following your run cool down with a slow walk and stretch again. End with a heating pad for 15 to 30 minutes then ice for 15 to 30 minutes. The last thing should always be ice.If it is pulled, then you just need to give it a couple days of rest before starting again.

You probably pulled a muscle. It's nothing big, but massaging it every day with muscle oil should do it. 8^)
- stop running ('till the pain goes)- gently stetch (do not strech so fat as to cause pain), suggest you do stairdrops; stand facing up the stairs with toes and ball of foot on a step with the rest of your body as straight as possible, lower your heel- Ice, heat, ice, heat, ice, heat etc (15 mins of each)- Go for a massage from a reputable sports massage therapistDo not go running on pain killers, as the probelm still exists and you will only make it worse - pain is your body's natural way of telling you to be nice to it!

The first thing would be not to take a painkiller. You need to know when it does and doesn't hurt, masking the pain will only fool you. You sound to be a serious runner, so taking days off seems to be hard to do(it practically kills me) But I look at it like this, it's better to miss a couple of days then to develope a strained muscle and have to sit out for a period that could last 2 to 4 weeks. I suggest lots of stretching and icing and don't forget to elevate. I would baby the muscle until it seems to inprove. At that point still don't run, try something else that doesn't have the same impact such as swimming or bicycling.

take at least 2 weeks off or maybe three, do some swimming might help and then after 2 or 3 weeks see what happens, happend to me a year ago.
