I've been on the pill for about a year and my period has been very irregular. I went several months without a period and the last couple I bled every other week. I missed three of my pills a week ago so I was wondering since I don't know when my period is supposed to start when should I take the test? I don't want to spend money testing every week just hoping I can narrow it down.I missed three of my pills last week. Not one pill three weeks ago and not three weeks of pills.

If you only missed one pill three weeks ago, you're probably ok. The pill, when taken correctly, prevents ovulation. It's unlikely that one missed pill caused you to ovulate and you just happened to get pregnant during that one day window. If you missed three weeks' worth, that's a different story. However, if the former is correct, it's unlikely that you're pregnant. A pregnancy test would be pretty accurate by now, since your missed pill was three weeks ago. If it would reassure you and help ease your mind, you could take a test. And never hesistate to call your doctor if you have any concerns or questions. Hope this helps!

Pregnancy tests that test hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels in urine can give pretty accurate results about a month after conception (which is about 2 weeks after when your missed period should have been). So I suggest you wait about three more weeks to take a test.Or, there's that new test that's supposed to be accurate 7-10 days after the missed period, in which case you could take that one in about two weeks. I forgot the name, but it would advertise the "7-10 days after missed period" thing on the box, or ask a pharmacist for help finding it.Most important, though, is that you read the labels and instructions of any pregnancy test. The most common mistake made is taking them too early, which could possibly give a false negative result.
