ok my hampster has allergies (not mites or mange) i have searched all over the net for symtoms and solutions... my hampster has itchiness, swelling of the paws, flaky skin around the eyes and ears and his scratching has been increasing... ive searched and found a solution to remove any new items put into the cage prior to the allergic reaction... we do not use cedar bedding or any other wooded bedding... we did however added a potty for him that came with these little pebbles similar to a kitty litter.. WHAT SHOULD I DO!!? PLEASE HELPI have consulted a vet but they refuse to tell me what i should do... ive gone over everything and they wont tell me wut the best thing to do for a hamster when it has allergies... they insist that i pay them the $100 walk in fee + medication from them... does anyone know of a vet i can consult for just information... ive contacted 3 so far in my area (fairfax virginia) and they all seem to want money x_X

Have you consulted a vet, or at least asked someone at the pet store where you bought him?

There is no P in hamster... it's not a cross between a hamper and a hamster. It's a HAMSTER.Check with your vet. There's lots of things pets can be allergic to. Do you put any cloth bedding in the cage? He also may be allergic to the laundry detergent or fabric sheets your family uses. I'd also switch out the litter to something else. If you're referring to that crystal litter that could very well be what's bothering the poor little guy.
