...I can do to help relieve the pain? I went swimming with the kids I babysit yesterday and all three of them piled on top me in the pool, as a result I pulled the muscle on the right side of my neck. I tried stretching it and that made it ten times worse it hurts to turn my head, is there anything I can do?The pain has moved into the shoulder blade on that side

The only way ... hmmm ... by urself ? Well, stretch the muscle, fight the pain and try to stretch. Take 2 advils, it'll help. And so will forgetting the pain.

Moist heat - heating pad or bottle - and do some stretching, slow and easy - every time it feels tight. Ibuprophen will help with swelling and pain too...if you're not allergic.

Ibuprofen and moist heat. Maybe get someone to massage it for you. You can take Tylenol with the ibuprofen since they do different things.

Use an ice pack on it.

Make an appointment with a chiropractor, they would know what to do.

You can always take a pain reliever, bengay cream, or those heat patches. That should help with the discomfortRelax the muscle, and try not to put too much strain on it for a while. It should go away, if it doesn't, see a doctor. =]Good luck!

I did that once. Except, I was only trying to turn my alarm clock off. I know, right? Anywho, I went to the doctor and I had to lean my head one way for the next couple of days because I couldn't move it. But, uh, back to the question. I went to a physical therapist who put some kind of liquid on my neck and then massaged it with this black thing with little balls on it. Go to a PT and see what you can do. That's the only thing I know to tell you. That and stretch it out as much as you can without causing more damage.

Ice it to reduce inflammation of the muscle. Then alternate with moist heat (maybe a shower with the stream hitting the bothersome spot). Ibuprofen to reduce swelling and pain.
