reflux? After a pretty bad reaction, I went to the doctor and he said it was not an allergy. I have been trying to identify what things in my diet cause it. So far it has been really bad when I have had oat based cereal (cheerios, life, quaker's 100% natural), or granola bars. I don't feel the same reaction when I eat other grains like wheat or barley. Does anyone know what is going on inside me?

You may have Celiac Sprue. It is a condition where you can not digest Oats, wheat, rye, or barley.

If you're not allergic to them, they are really hard on the stomach (the fiber)... it might be making an increase in the acids in your stomach to digest them.

Did you over-eat? Sometimes, over-eating anything can give you reflux. What did you put in your oats? Additives like sugar and butter may make a difference.

if you have an acid reflux problem, just about anything could do it.[i get it just by bending over or when i lay down.] i tried to treat it myself by using anti-acids .eno, gravol etc. and ended up with a beeding ulcer. you should see your doctor and they will be better able to evaluate the problem. sometimes little problems turn into bigger problems if we ignore them. im sure you have nothing serious but you still should get it checked.OK?

I have acid reflux and actually it doesn't seem to matter what I eat..I still get it. I need to take my meds regularly...am on Pepcid and Prilosec. Even a glass of milk can bring it on. However, I have noticed that a lot of stress can bring it on as well.

Sure sounds like celiac disease. (FYI those products are made with oats but those oats are planted and harvested with wheat, therefore contaminating them with wheat. If you have Celiac Disease, then u cannot digest gluten, a protein in wheat, rye and barley. Gluten is not IN oats but bc of the cross contamination, they are not gluten free.) You might want to consider being blodo tested for Celiac Disease. The remedy is simple if u have CD, a gluten free diet for life. 1 in 133 ppl have Celiac, and its highly genetic. Please feel free to email me for more info.
