...pup's dry skin problem? He keeps on scratching and biting himself even after frontline treatment, so i guess it's dry skin.

How often are you washing your dog?? Also are you sure it's not an allergic reaction that needs special attention from a vet??? I would check this out....

You have a few options. Food allergies in dogs show up as skin problems. Look at your dog food; does it have wheat in it? Change the food to something that does not have any wheat, nor wheat gluten. Second, treat the yard and home for fleas not the dog. Spray your yard with a non-toxic flea and tick spray. I use garlic barrier and it works great. Now, with the dog out of the house, cover all carpet and upholstered furniture with 20 mule team borax, making sure to get under sofas etc. Wash all bedding and dirty clothes. Sweep and mop all bare floors. Vacuum up the borax, and change the vacuum bag outside, even if is it not full. Cover the carpet with a little more borax and rub into the carpet with a broom, or your feet with socks on. Leave the Borax. Keep up with the yard spray and vacuuming, and the fleas will not return and you can stop poising your dog with Frontline.Add fish oil to your dog’s diet.Wash your dog only when she really is dirty. Use a mild shampoo, like baby shampoo. Over washing can cause itchy skin.

My dog trainer recommends olive oil or safflower oil on their dog food. She said that dogs don't have problems with cholesterol so putting a teaspoon daily on their food will help. Also, don't bathe the dog too often. Once every 3 to 5 weeks is plenty. : ) Hope your puppy gets less itchy!!

My dog used to scratch and bite himself too.I have mostly remedied the situation with a combination of things...1. I only let him go potty in short grass... the breakouts and itching seems to get worse if he walks through the ground cover which comes above his belly. Maybe he has allergies to grass and foliage??2. I purchased a gentle medicated shampoo for troubled skin3. I purchased some doggy cortisone spray to spray onto his "hot spots"4. I only bathe him once every other week (a vet told me that bathing too often will irritate his skin more)5. When he gets a lot of red spots all over as he does on occasion, I will give him .01 mL of Benedryl. With the above, his biting and scratching is now minimal... no more than 2-3 times a day for short durations. There for a while he was scratching and biting himself until he would bleed from it!

Try regular baby shampoo or Aveeno baby shampoo which both are safe for dogs according to my vet.

I don't know what kind of dog you have but if it's a short-haired puppy you actually only need to bathe it about every two or three months. Use dog wipes or dog perfume in-between. Allergies also play a big part. I recommend Solid Gold or Canidae dog food. They are both free of things that cause allergies & will make your pup's coat shiny. Check out their websites to see where you can puchase them. You can usually get them from a vet or specialty pet shop. Vets also sell a special dog lotion that can help that you put on them right after their bath.

take him to the vet he sounds like he is allergic to something. they can test and see what it is causing this skin irritation.
