View Full Version : Is severe pain in muscle normal after...
...being pierced by rusty/dirty nail? Had dirty nail pierce palm muscle @ base of thumb. Some swelling with severe pain @ any slight movement. I've had a tetanus shot within past 10 yrs. I've already taken Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen (5/500) & pain still persits, wondering if Motrin (Ibuprofen 600mg) or Tylenol (Acetaminophen 500mg) may help with swelling & pain? Which one is better or should I just take more of the Hydrocodone?

If the pain is that bad I would take a Hydrocodone. You probably need an antibiotic for infection. Please don't play around with this too long. Hope you're better soon!

Darlin', you have an infection. You need antibiotics. Get your ass to the doctor NOW!!! It could be fatal. I'm talking from experience. Get off line, and GO!!!!!!!!!!

Did you clean it with alcohol or peroxide? If so put some ice on it and remember to avoid piecings with dirty nails. And oh yeah go to the ER!
No, that is not normal. Imagine, you can be peirced by a surgical needle fairly deeply, and not feel anything at all the next day. Worse case you have tetanus, best case you have an infection. Call your doctor right away, he will want to see you right away.

Do you have reddness and swelling at the puncture point?Mikezdream is absolutely correct. You have an infection, and since you can't numb the pain with the codene it's severe. No joking. This is the type of infection that you could loose a hand.Get to a doc, NOW!
